The KiWAV 10-lb Belt Tension Gauge is designed to help measure motorcycle drive-belt deflection when the motorcycle manufacturer specifies a 10-lb measuring force.
Quick answer: Set the gauge to the 10-lb mark, position it at 90 degrees to the belt, record the belt position before applying force as reading A, apply 10 lb of force, record reading B, then calculate the belt deflection as B − A.

KiWAV Belt Tension Gauge Instructions
1. Set the Gauge to 10 lb
Move the small O-ring to the 10-pound mark on the gauge.
2. Position the Gauge Against the Belt
Place the U-shaped belt cradle against the bottom of the drive belt at the measuring point specified by the motorcycle manufacturer.
Keep the gauge at a 90-degree angle to the belt.
3. Record Reading A
Use the large O-ring as a reference indicator. Position it at a convenient fixed reference point and record the initial measurement as reading A.
4. Apply 10 lb of Force
Hold the large O-ring in position while allowing the body of the gauge to move.
Push upward on the rubber bumper until the small O-ring reaches the bottom of the gauge body. At this point, the gauge is applying approximately 10 lb of force to the belt.
5. Record Reading B
Record the new position as reading B.
6. Calculate Belt Deflection
Calculate the belt movement using:
Belt deflection = Reading B − Reading A
Compare the calculated deflection with the specification in the service manual for your exact motorcycle.
Important Measurement Notes
- Use this gauge only when the motorcycle's procedure specifies a 10-lb measuring force.
- Measure the belt at the location specified by the manufacturer.
- Keep the gauge perpendicular to the belt during measurement.
- Follow the specified motorcycle position, load condition, and other measurement conditions.
- Do not use a belt-deflection value from another motorcycle model or year unless the manufacturer specifies the same procedure.
